A day before 2nd District Rep. Erico Aumentado stepped down from Capitol last week, the Philippine Australian Alumni Association, Inc. (PA3i)–Bohol Chapter squeezed in his busy schedule just to hand a huge symbol of gratitude for the opportunity to a post-graduate scholarship in Australia.

PA3i–Bohol Chapter commended Aumentado for having been an “outstanding leader who dedicated all his energy and gave his all-out support for the advancement of our professional and career development, both individually and collectively, by sending us to post-graduate scholarships in Australia”.

“As we bid you farewell, we wish you more power, and hope for you all the best as you take on a new (albeit returning) task that is as challenging and pivotal as that through which you have led the Provincial Government of Bohol during the past nine years of your term as Provincial Governor. Thank you very much, from the bottom of our hearts,” the graduates stated in the oversized certificate.

Camaraderie among the graduates saw the PA3i-Bohol Chapter gradually shaping up under the leadership of May Limbaga as president, Larry Pamugas as vice president, Maria Rowena Bongcaras as secretary, Jovencia Ganub as assistant secretary, Ma. Imelda Borromeo as treasurer, Angelus Sales as Auditor, and the PROs- -Marietta Macalolot, Aida Evangelista, Rosemarie Jumamoy.

Since its inception as an independent organization being accredited by the Philippines Australia Alumni Association (PA3i) in February 28, 2009 – the PA3i-Bohol Chapter composed of twenty-five (25) scholars sent to Australia for post-graduate studies, has already gone a long way. The PA3i has been created to strengthen Philippine-Australian relations, as well as of its members through the promotion of Australian education and the continuing education programs for its members. Likewise, PA3i-Bohol Chapter will be active in the development of the Province of Bohol by making the learnings of the alumni accessible not just for their own agency but to the entire province.

Locally, the chapter organization has achieved quite a number of its goals. First was the conduct of a Strategic Planning Workshop last December 4, 2009 at Panda Tea Garden Suites, Tagbilaran City, which provided the framework mechanism that embodied the strategic plan for three years (2010-2012) and operational strategies for 2010 for the organization and members, external clients, and the institution, which is the Provincial Government of Bohol. The activity also served as a fellowship to strengthen the bond among the members. The planning exercise was attended by sixteen (16) alumni members. Among the highlights of the activity was the presence of PA3i advisers, Mr. Romy Teruel, Acting HRMD Officer who gave the welcome remarks and Atty. John Titus J. Vistal, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC), who facilitated the workshop.

The strategic planning workshop was essential in coming up with the vision, mission and goals of the organization. These goals which were identified along the process of the planning exercise are crucial in providing directions towards the implementation of the strategic plan. Among the goals that were embodied in the plan is the thrust of the PA3i- Bohol Chapter in achieving the province’s VMGs that is anchored on well-meaning attributes such as competency, transparency, goodwill among fellow alumnus, enhanced service delivery, advocacy on good governance based on ethical standards, ecological balance advocacy, and people empowerment. These in general may directly or indirectly translate towards uplifting the lives of the Boholanos which would eventually be a legacy for the PA3i-Bohol Chapter.

Among the plans identified is the conduct of a forum on climate change. The PA3i-Bohol Chapter in tandem with the Provincial Government of Bohol successfully conducted the Climate Change Summit on March 29 to 30, 2010 - first of its kind in Bohol and perhaps in the whole of Region 7. The summit was considered as a unique undertaking of the PA3i Bohol Chapter and is a noteworthy feat for the core members which would surely leave an indelible mark in the lives of the Boholanos.

The PA3i-Bohol Chapter set of officers: May Limbaga - President; Larry Pamugas - Vice-president; Maria Rowena Bongcaras - Secretary; Jovencia Ganub - Assistant Secretary; Ma. Imelda Borromeo -Treasurer; Angelus Sales - Auditor; Marietta Macalolot, Aida Evagelista and May Jumamoy - PROs. These set of officers are under the direction and guidance of its brilliant and dynamic advisers - Mr. Romeo S. Teruel, HRMDO head and Atty. John Titus J. Vistal, PPDC.
